With a wide range of Edinburgh city centre hotels and hotels near Edinburgh Airport, as well as to south of the city and east to Leith, the association is the largest in economic terms in Scotland. Hotels offer services for accommodation, meetings and conferences, events, private gatherings and some first class Edinburgh wedding venues. This association of exists to represent the views of hotels that have achieved a minimum of 3 stars grading from VisitScotland, are members of Edinburgh and Lothians Tourist Board and have a minimum of 15 bedrooms. The current membership of these 48 Edinburgh City hotels are represented within the Association by their General Managers. There is a Chairman, Chief Executive, Treasurer and a Council of 12 hoteliers who represent in equal numbers, the International chain hotels and the independent sector. The Edinburgh Principal Hotels Association (EPHA) acts as the collective voice and motivator of the industry within Edinburgh to gain maximum recognition and support for issues of concern relating to member hotels. It also communicates the economic benefit that member hotels bring to the city, supports and co-ordinates the hotel and catering industry lead initiatives within Edinburgh, and actively works with public sector and industry partners to develop and encourage year round business opportunities, especially through conference, event and leisure marketing activity. We work closely the city’s marketing agency, the Edinburgh and Lothians Tourist Board and with the city's premier conference venue, the Edinburgh International Conference Centre. There is regular dialogue amongst the member hotels at meetings throughout the year and representation by members of the EPHA on local government, area tourist board, national tourist board or industry body, which may influence the hotel business environment within Edinburgh. We endorse, participate in and support the Edinburgh Tourism Action Group - the Private/Public Partnership and chaired by Edinburgh Airport’s Managing Director - which co-ordinates activity to promote all aspects affecting tourism in the city and has representation in all sectors in tourism as well as the Tourist Board, City of Edinburgh Council and Scottish Enterprise. EPHA also supports hotel industry and local charitable organisations. EPHA does not exist for profit, act as a sales function (other than the web site online booking capability), or operate as a source of professional advice to its member hotels. Its key marketing 'influence' is as the first hotel association in the UK to provide online booking with its first web site in 1999 and now the production of this, its second website launched in 2001.
